Finding Beauty in Limitation - A Cautionary Tale
What happens if you only have one bodysuit left and that is your tool to survive on a destroyed planet? AMFI asked us to work on a project to provoke new ideas that will help restore the current broken fashion system. Our project is set in 2050, in a world where a fashion lockdown has commenced. The fashion industry is no more, and every individual is given a plain bodysuit. One they are encouraged to personally customise to fit their needs.
Draco, from Tokyo.
He spends his days leading a Pro-Capitalist Movement, the “Golden Days” as he calls them. He refuses to acknowledge the concept of brands as a thing of the past, sewing on buttons in every location on the body that is iconic for brands to do so. This way, he can rep his different fav brands without ever wearing a different garment. Smart, Draco!
Mahsa is from Iran.
She is showcasing her freedom from religious pre-dispositions that she has now achieved through the neutrality of the bodysuit, using the opportunity to explore her Zoroastri- an heritage (primary religion of Iran before the Muslim conquest of Iran).
Her suit incorporates the Farvahar on her arm (A Zoroastrian symbol), the Sarv-e Abarkuh on her chest (Iran's 4500-year-old Cypress tree, the World's 3rd oldest tree) and a poem on her leg by Rumi: “The desi- re to know your own soul shall end all other desires”.

Patty Ca$h is all about functionality.
Her pockets contain various gadgets to traverse the extreme weather conditions she has to end- ure. Her watch is a temperature regulator, run- ning its wires throughout her whole suit via her pockets, preventing malfunction.
Their name is their last track.
While some believed the lockdown went too far, they argue it didn’t do enough. They believe that clothing was never meant to be an art form, for it is too wasteful. Its an insult to nature. They’re self-expression is instead formed seemingly out of thin air, music.
